Q: How can I get Sceptre of Shalimar to run on Windows 2000 or XP?

Download a newer version! Any version dated after November 2003 will work correctly with Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.

Q: Where can I get QBasic?

You no longer need to have QBasic to run any of the latest versions of Sceptre of Shalimar (as of October 2003). However, to answer your question, try either of these:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/win95upg/tool_s/1.0/W95/EN-US/olddos.exe
http://download.microsoft.com/download/win95upg/tool_s/1.0/W95/EN-US/olddos.exe ( this link was valid as of October 2003. OLDDOS.EXE contains QBasic and a couple DOS utilities ).

Also, try going into Microsoft's Support section and searching the Knowledge Base for the following article numbers: 135315, 147831, and 258265.
135315 ("CD-ROM Extras for Microsoft Windows 95 Upgrade") contains the OLDDOS.EXE file towards the bottom of the list.
147831 ("How to Install Old MS-DOS Tools in Windows 95") tells how to copy the files from a Windows 95 CD and Windows 98 CD (ie: run instsupp.bat )
258265 ("QBasic Missing from Windows 2000") tells how to install QBasic into Windows 2000. You need a WinNT4 CD to do this.

ALSO, check www.qbasic.com/newbies.shtml ( if that don't work try www.qbasic.com )

Q: When will Sceptre of Shalimar be finished?

THAT IS THE ONE QUESTION YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ASK!!!
The only answer I can give is, "It will be done at some point in the future." I can't be any more specific than that... Due to my extremely busy schedule, I am not able to work on Sceptre of Shalimar on a regular basis. From time to time (approximately every 3 months) I will release a new "Work In Progress" version of the game. Check the
Downloads section below if you are interested in getting a Work In Progress version.

Q: Where did you get the name Shalimar?

A: From a box of Incense a friend had. The scent was called "Shalimar". I've always been good at coming up with names for stories, games, and the likes. "Sceptre of Shalimar" just had a nice ring to it...

I've since been informed that Shalimar is a popular phrase in India, refering to the scent, and also to a spectacular garden. There is also a town called Shalimar in India.

There is also a fine Indian Restaurant in Michigan called Shalimar. I've never been there myself, but I've heard from other people that it is very good. Oh, and no, I do not live in Michigan. I live in Southern California.
